Internal Peace Can Come from Taking Personal Ownership

Over the weekend, a good friend of mine was sharing her excitement about her son’s recent wedding, and I wanted to hear all the details! She described the longevity and depth of friendships both her son and his new wife have, the beautiful venue, the lightning she could see in the background during the ceremony, and the joining of her family with a large Italian family, with which she already feels a sense of belonging. Such wonderful gifts! During the celebration, she was asked if she felt sad about the changes in her own family since both of her children are now married. Her response was so her; she said she feels a sense of peace and accomplishment. And I could hear her joy in the way she described the weekend.

Not every change in life takes as much preparation as welcoming a new member into a family, either through marriage, birth, or adoption. Many come as surprises, like the loss of a job or a career-ending injury to an athlete. We all have our list of unwanted surprises!

Some changes are intentional. We choose to leave a relationship or a career. We change our morning routine, our diet, we move to another city.

Much of the work we do at Shifting Rhythms is discovering why we do the things we do. We believe that when you understand the root causes of your behavior, you will be able to take ownership and make intentional shifts that will lead to living a life of peace, clarity, and a sense of accomplishment.
